PLAYING WITH FIRE
“Don’t touch the lava!” you would yell jumping from sofa to sofa in your living room. As children, we regularly used our imaginations to play out some of the most exciting stories and adventures. We lived in fantasy worlds full of sword fights, dragons, fairies and princesses. We can still live there today and especially when conquering our fitness goals!
When you played out your childhood stories, you never fought a dragon and killed it in the first blow. You would duck, dodge, dive, fall and fight as hard as you could until the very end (or until mom called for dinner). You wrote this story yourself! YOU wrote the challenges into the story to make it interesting and engaging. The story is a roller coaster of setbacks and small successes over and over, up and down. Fitness is the same kind of dragon fight. There is always a new goal to attain and it’s almost always met with struggles along the way. But that’s what keeps us playing! Each success is an opportunity to see what you’re capable of and each setback is an opportunity to grow.
These challenges shouldn’t be scary, they should be fun! Why walk on carpet, when you can jump over lava? If we wanted it to be easy, we’d just stick with the carpet, unless of course it’s a magic carpet :)
